Happy Birthday Hubster!

Sunday was Kyle's 24th birthday. I can't believe another year has already gone by for him! And I really can't believe this is his second birthday we've celebrated as a married couple. Time flies doesn't it?

We started the weekend off with a dinner for just the two of us on Friday. I had plans for us to try out a restaurant in Augusta called Crums on Central, but I decided to let Kyle pick where he wanted to go instead. So we ended up going to Sticky Fingers. Go figure, right? Leave it up to a guy to choose down-home BBQ over semi-fancy cuisine. But Sticky Fingers was really good so I can't complain!

Saturday morning we headed to Kyle's parent's house so Kyle's Dad could give Doc his 9-week shots. Gotta love having a veterinarian for a Father-in-Law! Unfortunately Kyle was feeling under the weather Saturday, so he napped pretty much the whole afternoon while I entertained our energetic little Weimaraner and tried to keep him from bothering Kyle's parent's 7-year-old and 12-year-old Dobermans. Just like any older dogs, they were not as thrilled to see Doc as he was to see them. Kobe, the 12-year-old one, did begin to warm up to him though and let Doc get close enough to sniff a few times, haha:

We always eat really good when we go to Kyle's parents, and Saturday night was no exception. We had steak, potatoes, a yummy mushroom and cheese dish, salad, and pecan pie (Kyle's fave) for dessert. After dinner, we all started to watch The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford with Brad Pitt, but I couldn't finish it because it was too violent/intense/weird for me. I'm much more of a chick flick girl if I say so myself!

Sunday, Kyle's actual birthday, we celebrated with extended family as Kyle's grandparents and aunts and uncles came over for an early meal after church. And man did we have a feast! We had ham, tons of casseroles, cornbread, Asian slaw, and I was in charge of the dessert. I made Kyle an ice cream sandwich cake, which I know sounds like little kid food, but Kyle had been wanting ice cream sandwiches the past couple of times we went to the grocery store so I knew he would love it. And apparently everyone else did too! I was going to post the recipe on my sister's food blog, but about 2/3rds of the cake was gone before I could snap a picture. I guess it's not a crime to do a blog post without a picture, so maybe I'll still put the recipe up. And speaking of no pictures, we failed to get a big family photo, which would have been nice since we rarely see everyone together outside of Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we did get this family photo:

So you might be wondering what I gave Kyle for his birthday, and my answer would be this sailboat! While we were in Charleston for our anniversary, I thought it would be the perfect time to surprise him with it.

JUST KIDDING. The real answer is Doc, since dogs aren't exactly inexpensive these days. But I did get him a little something extra, and it does have to do with Doc, so I'll post more on that later. :)

Hope y'all have a great rest of your Wednesday!

  2. I love Sticky Fingers too. We will have to come visit and eat Sticky Fingers! Oh and you also have to do one of the following: post your ice cream sandwich dessert recipe anyway, or make it again ASAP, take a picture, and post the recipe. I need a good one for my small group!
    You're bossy older sis, Ashley
