The Augusta Canal

One of our favorite places to go walking is The Augusta Canal, second only to the Savannah River Greenway. Last Friday Kyle and I decided to have a little date night there (with Doc in tow, of course). So we energized on some White Pizza with Shrimp for dinner and then headed over to the Savannah Rapids Pavillion where the Canal trail begins.

I snapped the photo below right before Doc was going to lick his face. Isn't he so attractive? Lady Weims, he's single! ;)

Standing on the bridge, this is the view of where The Augusta Canal begins:

Off to the right is a little cascading waterfall.

The Canal Bridge:

The Canal is a popular place to walk your dog, so we ran across plenty of other pooches while on the trail. Doc always gets this little smirk on his face whenever he sees another dog. It's so so cute.

We came across some interesting vegetation along the trail, but don't rely on me to tell you what they were. For example, this I would call a "pretty red thinggity."

And this I would call "elephant ear leaves."

I really like this picture of Doc and Kyle, especially since Doc is looking up at him. It's almost like he's saying, "Uh, you know I can't see over this wall, right Dad?"

The Canal Headgates:

On the other side of the wall is, obviously, the Savannah River. It was gorgeous at this time of day!

After a good hour of exercise, we loaded back up in the Jeep and Doc was happy as a clam!

Hope y'all have a great Wednesday!

Rafting the Ocoee

Once upon a time (in February, to be exact) Kyle and I bought a LivingSocial deal for a rafting trip with two other couple-friends. It took us until August to finally schedule our trip, but we did it and I survived the Ocoee. The end.

(Wasn't that an amazing story? I probably shouldn't quit my day job.)

Needless to say, I didn't bring my camera along because I knew I would be too busy clutching my paddle with a death-grip to have time to take pictures. But, thanks to Flickr, here's a little peek at the beauty we got to adventure through:

After our rafting trip, we stayed at our friend Matt's grandfather's cabin in North Carolina. His uncle happened to be there that weekend as well, and he took us out for an evening boat ride on Lake Hiawassee. And oh my word y'all, that was one of the most beautiful, peaceful experiences I've ever had. Soaking in the crystal clear water and gorgeous mountain backdrop while the sun set. Just a little piece of heaven that God has graciously shared with us. :)

On our way home the day after our rafting trip we stopped by Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge. We sampled a ton of food and their many flavors of cider, and in the end Kyle and I were sold on the Vidalia Onion and Georgia Peach Salsa. Sounds yummy, right? We might make a tradition out of stopping there anytime we are up in that area. It was such a neat place!

We also took the opportunity to stop by our alma mater, since we were going through Athens on our way home. Kyle bought a new UGA hat at the bookstore, and then we took a quick walk across the Sanford Drive bridge so we could soak in the sight of beautiful Sanford Stadium, since we won't be spending every other Saturday there like we did two years ago. Hopefully we can make it to at least one game this year!

So what about y'all? Anybody have a recent outdoor excursion or try LivingSocial Adventures? We had a blast!

Reception at Point Clear Tennis Club

Creagh and Chris had their reception at Point Clear Tennis Club, only a short drive away from the charming white country church where they became Mr. and Mrs. The exterior of the club was almost completely covered in ivy--making you feel like you were approaching the English countryside as you pulled up.

Are you ready for this? This buffet centerpiece is made entirely of oyster shells. Is that chic or what? And you'll also notice in the first photo of the post that some of the flower arrangements had oyster shells serving as vase filler. Kudos to Creagh's Aunt Maggie for her creative genius!

Creepin' on my parents as they graze the buffet. ;)

My beautiful family. For all the ladies who might be curious, my sister's purple bridesmaid dress is the Becky Gown by Nicole Miller. All the bridesmaids ordered their dresses from Rent the Runway, a good option if you want your girls to wear designer dresses without breaking their bank!

My cousin Caroline and me. Glad she was able to make it down with her mom!

I LOVED the back of Creagh's dress. It kinda reminded me of my own but with a bow on top!

Again, par for the course with these two.

My Uncle Bill (the father of the bride and a spitting image of Steve Martin), along with my cousin Ali, gave a very sweet and meaningful toast to the newlyweds.

So after taking care of the wedding traditions, stuffing our bellies with cake and cuttin' a rug on the dance floor, we were all starting to feel a little like this:

(Sorry hubs, couldn't help myself!) So it was back to the hotel for us. We gave everyone one last hug and drove back to Georgia the next morning with a smile on our faces from all the sweet memories made. Congrats again to Creagh + Chris!
